This series consists of one volume of press copies of weekly narrative reports on school related activities. The reports are generally brief, spanning no more than two pages, and cover a myriad of events in the years immediately after the school was established in Riverside, CA. Many of the reports record construction activites and the developments of the school's physical infrastructure. Student activities and events such, athletics, recitals, social events and field trips are also prominent subjects of these reports. Also noted are significant visitors, such as Bureau of Indian Affairs officials and the activities of individual faculty members, including trips, awards, and promotions.

The Sherman Institute was established in 1900, as a successor to the Perris Indian School (Perris, Calif.), after the water supply to the previous school was deemed insufficient. By 1901 a site in the city of Riverside was selected, at the corner of Magnolia Avenue and Jackson Street. On July 19, 1901, the cornerstone was laid for the new school building of Sherman Institute, and the school officially opened on September 9, 1902.
